An ambience that turns your wine cooler into a showpiece. The ‘AMBIENTE’ edition features high-grade, natural Sapless (Mahogany) wood racks, as well as subtle lighting throughout the cabinet. All racks from top to bottom are bathed in soft, warm, amber light which makes the wine cabinet a visual magnet. No additional lighting is required to read the labels on the bottles on the presentation racks (where the bottles are in a slightly tilted position) or the extended flat racks.

No more worries about dried-out corks and oxidised wine.
When wine coolers work at room temperature, the cooling effect automatically brings the relative humidity inside the cooler to the desired 60% or so for optimal wine storage. However, during the winter months, central heating can dry out the indoor air significantly. The heating system in wine coolers located in cold cellars may also be activated, further exacerbating the dryness of the air. When these dry conditions persist over weeks or even months, the relative humidity within the wine cooler can drop severely enough to cause corks to dry out, letting oxygen into the wine bottle. When this happens, the wine obviously goes very bad, very quickly.

To address this scenario, SWISSCAVE has developed a unique, electronically-controlled, air humidification system, letting the user set the desired relative humidity level between 60 and 85% in the wine cooler. With the sensors, the intelligent control ensures that the desired humidity level is reached and maintained automatically using an humidifier. Thanks to the new convection humidifier, there is much less water logging.

SWISSCAVE launched product as a device to actively control and maintain both the temperature and the relative humidity inside the wine cooler.

In the following scenarios it is essential to ensure that the air surrounding the wine is raised to the necessary level of relative humidity by means of active air humidification management:

  • Normal room temperature (approx. 20° or higher), however, for a longer time period (months) dry air in the room
  • Room temperature of only approx. 12-16°, and room air for a longer time period below 50-55% relative humidity
  • Room is cool (below approx. 10-12°) for a longer time period

How noisy is a wine cooler?

Most wine cooler cabinets generate a noise level around 35-45 decibels (dB). In comparison, a dishwasher in use is around 45-50 dB and a standard modern fridge about 35 dB.

Generally speaking, wine coolers produces slightly more noise than regular refrigerators. This is because of their greater need to maintain a constant temperature. The vast majority of wine coolers on the market consist of a compressor, a refrigerant circuit and a system of fans.

Acoustic considerations If you're building a new house it's a good idea to consider the acoustics and sound right from the start of your planning. There is a wealth of sound dampening materials available on the market that won't break your budget. Your contractor or local building supplier will be able to guide you through these.

For the rest of us, there are also a number of handy tricks and tips. A handclap test is a quick way to ascertain the acoustic "behaviour" of a space. Clap loudly in a room and listen for how much reverberation there is in the echo. It doesn't take more than a second before it will be perceived as bothersome.

Lastly, there's also valuable advice about how to design your interior to accommodate your wine cabinet cooler. Some of the advice takes the form of general observations while other advice applies to more specific situations.

Sources that enhance acoustics:

- Carpets, thick curtains and other thick fabrics absorb sound.
- Furniture, paintings and decorative items can dampen reverberations.
- Use sound-absorbing materials when building, especially in high rooms.

What is the best way I can reduce the noise of my wine cooler?

  • Make sure the wine cooler is perfectly level
  • Place it on a vibration and noise-absorbing material.
  • Make sure air can circulate around the cooler cabinet.
